Dear Educator:
It is my pleasure to once again invite your students to participate in our Fourth Annual Art of Friendship Contest.
This contest, sponsored by The Institute of Interfaith Dialog, gives students the chance to visually express their understanding of the phrase, ‘the art of friendship’. The specific rules for submission to this year’s contest are detailed in the enclosed materials, all of which are self-explanatory. We would very much appreciate it if you could distribute these materials to members of your Visual Arts and English departments. Please feel free to reproduce these materials as needed.
The deadline for this year’s Art Contest is November 16, 2012. Winning students and their teachers will be recognized at a Banquet in the presence of community leaders.
Participation in this activity has been growing every year, and we hope to see an even greater number of student art pieces this year. Any and all help you can offer in putting this project into the hands of your instructors would be most appreciated
If you have any questions regarding this event or are in need of additional contest posters and materials, please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience. On behalf of The Institute of Interfaith Dialog, I thank you for your support of programs that encourage the creative efforts of the young people in our city.
Regards,

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
This program hopes to contribute to the promotion of friendship and dialogue among the diverse members of our society, including peers, strangers, adults, and figures of authority. The wide range of cultures and ethnicities that characterizes our city and our schools provides a unique opportunity for such dialogue, and we ask participants consider the implications of this friendship in a visual medium. It allows our young people the chance to deal with real community and world issues and work towards global peace and intercultural understanding.
