Three Wednesday series of "Toward a Global Civilization of Love and Tolerance" with Gülen Institute and Institute of Interfaith Dialog in cooperation with SoL Center.
Dr. Ali Riza Candir- January 25
Dr. Alp Aslandogan- February 29
Dr. Sait Yavuz - April 4
Speakers offer a rare opportunity to learn about the Gülen movement. This is a phenomenal global movement begun in Turkey by Fethullah Gülen. He came to believe that education, in science especially, could equalize the disparity of poverty, that love and respect for humanity and the natural world could lead to peace; that people of different faiths, or no faith, could be friends, and that service to less fortunate people could help people live their best lives.
Fethullah Gülen is a Turkish Muslim scholar, thinker, author, poet, opinion leader and educational activist. He is regarded as the initiator of the world-wide social movement of human values known as the Hizmet (Service) Movement or the Gülen Movement. Focused on education where the curriculum is secular and teachers aspire to high values of humanity, this social phenomenon defeats easy categorization. Volunteer participants in the movement, from all walks of life, serve in many ways, in-cluding tutoring centers, schools, colleges, hospitals, a major relief organization and others, both in Turkey and in more than a hundred countries around the world.
This program is in cooperation with Lucy Greer Burton, Director of the San Antonio SoL Center.SoL Center serves to educate adults, regardless of their religious background, who seek to explore all aspects of religious faith in the 21st century.
