The Institute Interfaith Dialog hosted Mr. Sait Yavuz for a Lunctime Lecture at Texas A&M University on September 26, 2011. Sait Yavuz is an Adjunct Professor at University of Houston and Director of Research at Gulen Institute at University of Houston. His talk is titled " A lesson learnt from post 9/11 era: The necessity for dialogue!". In his speech, Mr. Yavuz said "Sometimes dialogue proponents are accused to be romantic lovers" and asked if the global peace is an Utopia. Then, he answered the question: "Yes, it is. But, it should not stop us for working towards a peaceful community."
Mr. Yavuz continued to his talk by giving examples from interfaith dialogue initiatives of Mr.Fethullah Gulen, which dates back to early 90's. He told that Gulen, an authoritative mainstream Turkish Muslim scholar, promotes cooperation of civilizations toward a peaceful world, as opposed to a clash and quoted from him: “Be so tolerant that your bosom becomes wide like the ocean. Become inspired with faith and love of human beings. Let there be no troubled souls to whom you do not offer a hand and about whom you remain unconcerned.” Mr. Yavuz's talk was a part of the program titled ‘A week for Diversity Dialogues’. The purpose of “A week for Diversity Dialogues” was to emphasize the necessity of dialog and make Texas A&M University an even more welcoming and supportive environment for all.
