Oklahoma Secretary of Energy Wegener luncheon

dsc04365.jpg The Institue of Interfaith Dialog in colloboration with the Raindrop Turkish House added one more luncheon forum to its history of successful series of luncheon forums. On December 9th, Raindrop hosted honorable Robert Wegener, Oklahoma Secretary of Energy. Wegener is responsible for various executive entities including: Commission on Marginally Producing Oil and Gas Wells, Corporation Commission, Grand River Dam Authority, Oklahoma Department of Mines and many more. In 2005, Wegener represented Oklahoma in Azerbaijan to help initiate economic and educational partnerships between Oklahoma and the former Soviet Republic.

Secretary of State Susan Savage, the Edmond Public Schools Superintendent David Goin were among some of the porminent public servants who attended the lunch. Dr. Vahap Uysal from the University of Oklahoma emceed the program. Dr. Uysal's introduction of the Secretary Wegener shed light on many interesting points in the Secretary's life, such as his being big fun of Kris Kristopherson when he was a College Student.

In his presentation, Secretary Wegener offered his insights into the ways energy policy and current and future research must interact to maximize benefits to residents, communities and organizations throughout Oklahoma and beyond. He said not only the state of Oklahoma but also as the United State face the problem of scarce energy.
"We have the expertise in Oklahoma to make a significant contribution to meeting America's energy needs," said Wagener and suggested that, "The key is diversification of our energy portfolio. Oil and gas will still lead the way over the next 20 years, but wind power and agricultural energy sources also will play a major role."
Wegener said, "Oklahoma should have a balanced energy portfolio between wind and natural gas."
Wegener also talked about the possibility of expanding cellulosic ethanol as an alternative way to creating energy. He stressed the supply and demand concept when tackling with the question of energy in Oklahoma.
Following the talk, Wegener answered couple of questions directed from the audience. The secretary Wegener said he felt so welcomed by the Raindrop Turkish House and the Institute of Interfaith Dialog. He added that he wanted to know more about both of the organizations as well as Turkey.
