The Institute of Interfaith Dialog publicly recognizes and honors individuals and organizations who have contributed their time, energy, leadership, and dedication to the cause of dialog, peace, understanding, education and community service.
There are three main award categories: Community Service, Leadership and Peace. The award ceremony will be held in October 19, 2010 at the “Dialog & Friendship Dinner” in Pebble Creek County Club.
Selection Criteria
The nominees will be reviewed based on the following criteria for each award:
Community Service Award
Significant contribution to education, science, the arts, humanities, parenting and the family, public policy, the media or another field, in a way that makes an impact on the larger community
Strong record of accomplishments and contributions in public service
Outstanding contributions to the betterment of society through social responsibility projects by providing service to the needy and the disadvantaged
Leadership Award
Leadership in mobilizing and unifying people, institutions, or causes that improve people’s lives
Leadership in areas of education, business, art, culture, sports, and the media within a professional association or society
Leadership in increasing mutual understanding, respect and diversity for promoting a multicultural society
Peace Award
Peace achievements in government, business, the media, education, peacekeepers, peacebuilders in civil society, peace philanthropy, and multi-cultural relations
Outstanding contributions to increasing public awareness of dialog, peace, respect for diversity, and community spirit
Strong record of research and teaching on world cultures, faiths, shared values, and intercultural dialog and commitment to diversity in the community

Dinner of Abrahamic Traditions: An Introduction to My Faith The Institute of Interfaith Dialog – Bryan/College Station organized its 1st Dinner of Abrahamic Traditions in Raindrop Turkish House on April 15, 2010. More than 70 participants first had dinner together. After the dinner, there was a delightful panel that thoroughly entertained all of the participants. The panel discussion is entitled as “An Introduction to My Faith”. The speakers were Rev. Kip Gilts, Pastor, A&M United Methodist Church, College Station, TX; Susan Miller, Director of Religious Education, Congregation Beth Shalom, Bryan, TX; and Kemal Civelek, President of Islamic Spirituality Center, Houston, TX. The moderator was Rev. Dan De Leon, Pastor, Friends Congregational Church, College Station, TX.
Advancing Interfaith Understanding Dinner - April The Institute of Interfaith Dialog (IID) hosted congregation of “First United Methodist Church of Bryan” for an enjoyable meal and wonderful evening of fellowship. Homemade Turkish meals were served for the dinner. Following the meal, Pastor Matt Idom gave a speech about beliefs and practices of the Methodist denomination. Also, a member of IID made a presentation about the activities of The Institute of Interfaith Dialog.
Each month, IID College Station/Bryan hosts a congregation for a dinner to facilitate dialog among people of different faith communities and advance interfaith understanding.
Community Friendship Dinner The Institute of Interfaith Dialog (IID) hosted College Station Police Department for a community friendship dinner in Raindrop Turkish House . Before the dinner, an IID member introduced the IID and mentioned some of the activities of IID. Then, homemade Turkish food was served as dinner. After the dinner, Dr. Engin Kalkan presented an appreciation certificate to Jeff Capps, Chief of Police at College Station Police Department for their hard work and dedication to our community.
The Institute of Interfaith Dialog (IID) hosted congregation of “Peace Lutheran Church” for an enjoyable meal and wonderful evening of fellowship. Homemade Turkish meals were served for the dinner. Following the meal, Rev. Stephen Rieke made a presentation about beliefs and practices of the Lutheran denomination. Also, a member of IID gave information about the activities of The Institute of Interfaith Dialog.
Each month, IID College Station/Bryan hosts a congregation for a dinner to facilitate dialog among people of different faith communities and advance interfaith understanding.
As one of grass roots activities of the Institute of Interfaith Dialog (IID), IID College Station organized the " Noah's Pudding Day ” where puddings prepared by IID volunteers were distributed during the day.
" Noah's Pudding " celebrates the common heritage of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
In the Muslim prophetic tradition, the day Moses (peace be upon him)
and his community were saved from the Pharaoh's army, and the day
Noah's (peace be upon him) ark was saved from the flood is celebrated
with fasting and in modern times with the sharing of a piece of desert
known as Noah's pudding.
The representatives from The Institute of Interfaith Dialog (IID) of College Station had a courtesy visit to principal of A&M Consolidated High School, Ernest "Buddy" Reed, at his office. IID representatives gave brief information to Mr. Reed about IID and its activities. Mr. Reed is also invited to one of the major events of IID, namely to Intercultural and Interfaith Trips to Turkey .
The Institute of Interfaith Dialog (IID) Representatives of College
Station had a courtesy visit to Bryan High School principal Diana
Werner at her office. IID representatives received warm welcome, gave
brief information about IID and talked about Turkey trips . Both parties
emphasized the importance of working together closely by touching base
the necessity of interfaith/intercultural dialogue and importance of
education in today's world. Principal Diana Werner was invited to the
office of Raindrop Turkish House at College Station.
Former Turkey Trip participants had the chance to come together and refresh memories during a Ramadan fast-breaking dinner organized by The Institute of Interfaith Dialog (IID) at Raindrop Turkish House . Trip participant of 2009 summer group as well as participants from previous years had a delicious dinner with IID members. After dinner, we exchanged ideas for future events and get-togethers while having hot Turkish tea.
The Institute of Interfaith Dialog organized a Ramadan fast-breaking dinner at Raindrop Turkish House . PhD and master students from Texas A&M University shared the fast-breaking dinner with Muslim students. After dinner, a short presentation on the significance of Month of Ramadan for Muslims was made. Also, a representative of Institute of Interfaith Dialog gave information about activities of IID.
